How we work

Exhibitions are an opportunity to present content like a three-dimensional book that can be experienced as a physical installation. Ideally, all the elements should be so well coordinated that visitors to the exhibition become totally immersed in a new and fascinating world. In order to create a coherent overall impression, Die Werft concepts are always devised holistically, in close consultation with architects, interior designers and media consultants. Right from the outset – even prior to the first draft – this leads to valuable synergy effects, which help accentuate the unique character of every project and give it a distinctive “face”. The key parameters of such a process, are the conceptual threads and equally the physical limitations of the interior spaces, along with any town planning requirements for the building and special features of the location.

Apart from our professional skills, our working style is marked by a special commitment to exploring every aspect of the target content and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject matter. Every project is based on a clear concept for content and design, which runs through the exhibition like a guiding light, generating clarity and understanding.

In the design of exhibitions, we are guided by the following principles:

• Visitors should experience the subject matter with all their senses.
This is why we convey information not only through texts but also through visual, spatial, experimental, medial and documentary aids.

• The form of presentation is always determined by the content.
We pride ourselves on finding the most suitable form of presentation for each project and each exhibit, where form and content “talk” to each other. Media are incorporated into this process on a holistic basis, so that the room design and the media both speak the same language and are “of the same mould” .

• All visitors are different.
This is why we work on several levels of information: one for the chance visitor, one for the interested layperson and one for the fact-hungry amateur or well-informed visitor.
If children make up part of the target market, we devise special forms of presentation for them. Another important factor is that people with disabilities also have a right to visit exhibitions. We believe barrier-free design extends beyond the building itself to the design of content and interiors.

• Outstanding quality is the result of good connections
In order to see the points mentioned above reflected in the actual exhibition, a constant process of consultation with our clients is essential. We also apply the same approach to all our dealings with collaborative partners and suppliers. We are convinced that together we can create something truly outstanding.
